Sure

Carol Grace, my sweet Carol Grace.  Today, St. Patrick's Day is a fun day for seven almost eight year olds.  She spent the afternoon telling us all about what happened at school curtesy of the school leprechuans.  The bathrooms had green water, they were locked out of their classroom by the little green guys, and their classroom was completly destroyed.  She is completly sure that they have leprechuans at her school.

Transition to home.  We were playing outside in our back yard.  Carol Grace is busy looking for little lucky green fellas that might be living in our yard.  She even wanted to borrow the shovel to go in search of the ones that might be hiding, you know way down deep.  We did not allow her to do this of course.

Transition to dinner.  She begins a conversation about "Are Leprechuans real"  She asks "Mom do you believe that Leprechuans are real?"  I say "sure".  She says "Do you really mean that, or are you just saying that because I am a kid?  You know adults do that sometimes"  I had to laugh about this. Hard.  We have been working for weeks on "It's not what you say, but how you say it" which has yet to hit home.  Today it may have.  She goes on to explain how "Sure" has several meanings.  there is Sure-meaning Yeah right, Sure-meaning Yes, Sure-meaning you are just agreeing so you don't have to expain what you really think, and then Sure- a joking word.

Who knew that one word could mean so many things?  And who knew that my sweet seven almost eight year old would know them all?  Am I really all that surprised?  Sure :)
